ENT and diving

Freediving and spearfishing are activities which requirea good physical condition and an  excellent function of the ears, nose and paranasal sinuses, this is to say the air spaces inside our head.

Awareness of proper function of our organs and organic systems, is achieved with the acquisition of basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Getting to know those structures is the main aim of schools provided by PHORCYS. Teaching uses extremely plain and fully understandable speech, to help realize behavior of our tissues in hyperbaric environment. This will allow us to adopt methods and practices, that have the ability to eliminate potential hazards, providing for our favorite sport the necessary terms for a safe dive.

In the first level, topics involve dealing with health matters that precede the day of our dive, proper hydration, methods of equalization of pressure, safe use of medication, barotraumas and dealing with them etc. while practical health advices, tips and tricks will be highlighted.

In the second level, thorough analysis of pathophysiological mechanisms of barotraumas is being assessed as well as methods of passing on useful information to less experienced diving buddies or at least to make an effort to avoid deterioration of their situation on cite.

Therapeutic choices are fully exposed and further analysis of more complex situations is being assessed, such as rupture of round window, allobaric vertigo, equalization problems and barotraumas of frontal sinuses.

The aim of all this knowledge which is delivered with simplicity and clarity, is to learn how we can protect ourselves and others and avoid mistakes, making diving and underwater Spearfishing a safe activity.
