Participation rights for the Powerboat** School include all adults or minors of 16 years and over with parental consent.

Education:

    Theory (2 sessions):

  • Introduction

  • Types of boats, engines and hulls

  • Boat equipment

  • Personal equipment

  • Pre-launch checks and launching from a trailer

  • Essential safety information; kill cord; local hazards; summoning assistance

  • Weather forecasts

  • Awareness of other water users and communication

  • Balance and trim

  • Basic navigation: charts, buoyage and tides

  • Collision regulations

  • After care and removing a powerboat from the water

 

   Practical (4 sessions):

  • Slow speed manoeuvres

  • Holding off and effects of wind

  • Correct approach and secure to a buoy

  • Approach and recover man overboard

  • Confined space manoeuvers

  • Coming alongside and leaving another craft, pontoon or floating dock

  • Practical understanding of balance and trim

  • Maintain a good lookout at all times

  • Knots

  • Anchoring

  • Set up and tow another powerboat

  • High speed manoeuvres: S and U-turns

  • Carry out a small, planned tour

Course duration: 2 Days

Certification exams: No theoretical exam is required although all candidates must show a good, general understanding of all topics.

All candidates must reach a satisfactory, practical standard as determined by the RYA instructor.

 

Instructor’s ratio per candidates:

Theory education: One (1) RYA Instructor per 6 candidates

Practical education: One (1) RYA Instructor per 3 candidates

The entire above are performed under the supervision of a RYA Instructor, which has the full responsibility of the integration and certification of the school.
